Lutron RadioRA 3 Occupancy Sensors
Automatically adjust lighting when people enter or leave a room with Lutron Radio Powr Savr wireless occupancy and vacancy sensors.
These battery-powered PIR sensors communicate over Clear Connect RF to compatible RadioRA 3 devices, allowing ynVISION to add automatic lighting control without running control wiring through finished ceilings and walls.
Key Features of Radio Powr Savr Sensors
Automatic Lighting Without Control Wiring
Radio Powr Savr sensors use passive infrared technology to detect the heat that people give off, infrared radiation at roughly 9.5 µm, as they move through the coverage area, then wirelessly transmit on/off commands to the associated dimming and switching devices.
Occupancy models offer three settings: Auto-On/Auto-Off, Auto-On Low-Light/Auto-Off, and Manual-On/Auto-Off. Vacancy-only models are available for projects that require manual-on/automatic-off operation, including applicable energy-code designs. The Auto-On Low-Light setting turns lights on automatically only when ambient light is below approximately 10 lux (1 fc).

A Sensor for Different Room Shapes

Lutron offers ceiling-mounted, wall-mounted, corner-mounted, and hallway sensor configurations.
Ceiling sensors provide 360-degree coverage for typical rooms. Wall-mount and hallway sensors cover a 180-degree field, corner-mount sensors cover 90 degrees, and Lutron specifies a 6 ft-8 ft mounting height for those models, with hallway sensors centered in the corridor. Multiple sensors can be combined for extended coverage when a single device cannot reliably observe the entire room.

Choose How Each Room Responds
Occupancy Mode
Lights turn on when motion is detected and turn off after the room becomes vacant.
Vacancy Mode
The user turns the lighting on manually and the sensor turns it off automatically once the room is empty. A 15-second grace period after an automatic off will bring the lights back on in response to motion.
Low-Light Auto-On
Prevents automatic activation when the room already has sufficient natural light.


Accurate Detection and Adjustable Operation

Wireless and Battery Powered: No line-voltage wiring at the sensor. One CR123 lithium battery with a 10-year battery-life design; settings survive a battery change via non-volatile memory.

PIR Motion Detection: Lutron XCT Technology is designed to recognize fine motion within the monitored area.

Adjustable Settings: Timeout of 1, 5, 15 (default), or 30 minutes; Auto-On enabled, low-light, or disabled; activity sensitivity low (default), medium, or high.

Ceiling Coverage: 324 ft² at an 8 ft ceiling, 400 ft² at 9 ft, 484 ft² at 10 ft, and 676 ft² at 12 ft, 12 ft is the recommended maximum mounting height.

Specialized Coverage: Corner and hallway models address larger or unusually shaped areas.

RF Range: Load controls must be within 60 ft line-of-sight, or 30 ft through walls, of the sensor.

Environment: 32 °F-104 °F, under 90% non-condensing humidity, indoor use only.

Commissioning Aids: Front-accessible test buttons, plus a lens that illuminates orange in response to motion during test mode and is visible from 60 ft.
Occupancy Sensor Design and Programming
Correct sensor placement is essential. Lutron specifies mounting at least 4 ft away from HVAC vents and from halogen or incandescent bulbs hanging below the ceiling line, and at least 4 ft from devices that emit radio waves such as microwaves and wireless routers, but only 2 ft or more from Clear Connect Type X lamps and fixtures. The sensor also needs an unobstructed line of sight to occupants; it cannot see through glass, and tall cabinets, shelving, hanging fixtures, and ceiling fans will interfere. Where the sensor would otherwise see into a hallway or adjacent room, portions of the lens can be masked.
