​Lutron Pico Wireless Controls for RadioRA 3

Add convenient lighting and shade control almost anywhere without opening the walls or installing control wiring.

Lutron Pico controls can be used as handheld remotes, wall-mounted controls, tabletop controls, or car-visor controls. They are ideal for completed homes, bedside control, additional switch locations, and flexible RadioRA 3 scene control throughout Livingston, Chatham, Montclair, and Northern New Jersey.

Key Features of Lutron Pico Controls

Wireless Control Without New Wall Wiring

Pico controls run on a single replaceable CR2032 coin cell and require no electrical connection. Lutron rates standard PJ2 Pico controls for approximately 10 years of battery life under its stated test assumptions. The newer PJN nightlight models use the same battery but are rated for approximately three years because the integrated nightlight consumes additional power. Actual battery life varies with use and environmental conditions.

A Pico fits a standard designer wallplate opening and can be mounted to a finished wall with the PICO-WBX-ADAPT wallbox adapter, carried as a handheld remote, set on the L-PED1 tabletop pedestal, or attached to a vehicle visor with the PICO-CARVISOR-CL clip. Accessories are sold separately.

Lighting, Shades, Drapery, and Scenes

Lutron's current RadioRA 3 support pages list seven Pico model families: PJ2-2B, PJ2-2BRL, PJ2-3B, PJ2-3BRL, PJ2-4B, PJN-2B, and PJN-3BRL. The PJN models add an integrated nightlight. Each button can be assigned in Lutron Designer according to the selected model and system programming.

Depending on the selected model and RadioRA 3 programming, a Pico can:

  • Turn lighting on and off

  • Raise or lower brightness

  • Open or close motorized shades

  • Recall a favorite shade or lighting position

  • Activate a programmed lighting scene

  • Provide bedside or tabletop whole-room control

Wall-Mounted Control

Add a control location to a finished wall without cutting into the surface or running electrical cable.

Handheld or Tabletop Remote

Keep convenient control next to a bed, sofa, desk, kitchen island, or home-theater seat.

Vehicle Visor Control

Use a compatible Pico with the visor clip to activate exterior lighting or a programmed arrival scene from the vehicle. For a hard-wired alternative, RadioRA 3 also supports the RR-VCRX visor control receiver.

Reliable Lutron Wireless Communication

  • Battery Life: Standard PJ2 models are rated for approximately 10 years under Lutron's stated assumptions; PJN nightlight models are rated for approximately three years. Both use one CR2032 battery.

  • Wireless Range: 30 ft through walls and 60 ft line-of-sight. In a RadioRA 3 system, Clear Connect Type A devices must be within 30 ft of the processor or a repeater.

  • Clear Connect Communication: Compatible Pico controls communicate over Lutron Clear Connect Type A; RadioRA 3 placement must follow the processor/repeater range requirements.

  • Multiple Mounting Options: Handheld, wall, tabletop, and visor arrangements.

  • Interference Resistance: Thousands of system addresses prevent interference between neighboring systems.

  • No High-Voltage Wiring: The Pico contains no line-voltage connection.

Pico Programming and RadioRA 3 Integration

Although Pico controls are easy to mount, their usefulness depends on thoughtful programming. ynVISION assigns the correct rooms, zones, shades, scenes, and press-and-hold functions so each remote behaves predictably, and confirms each Pico is within range of the processor or an appropriately placed repeater.
